Why a new tab opens every time I return to the window?

Each time I leave then return to the Firefox app (not closing the window, just jumping to another app, then returning) a new tab opens. This started happening in the past week. Was fine prior.

It used to be a solution to go with this:

"Go to Settings > About Firefox > Tap 5 Times > Debug: Toggle Start at Home: ON"

But that Debug option is no longer present, to my frustration. (I did find a solution for the annoying "inactive tab" "feature", at least.)

Anyone have any other ideas?
