Firefox Not Deleting Site Data

more options

I have Firefox set to "delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed".

But when I sign in to various sensitive sites (banking, etcetera) as I start to enter my user name / e-mail, my entire user name or e-mail pops up as an option to click---i.e. it has been 'saved' somehow.

This is exactly why I have (or thought I had) everything set to clear when I close Firefox. It is obviously retaining information. Why? And what is mozilla doing that they are so casual with our personal information??

That is likely the Password Manager. Another possibility is the Form Filler built into the browser.

>Password Manager Type about:preferences#security<enter> in the address box. Look under Logins,

Note: For Firefox v56+ its; about:preferences#privacy Look under Forms & Passwords Or type about:logins<enter> in the address box (For settings, click the 3 dots upper right)

>Form Filler Click in the field, enter a character or two and STOP ! Using the arrow keys, highlight an unwanted entry. Then press Shift + Delete

Repeat as needed.

Thank you for your quick response.

I went back to settings and noticed something under "Logins and Passwords". The "Autofill logins and passwords" and "Suggest and generate strong passwords" had always been checked, but the checkmarks were 'faded' or 'greyed out'---i.e. they were unable to be unchecked.

But, when I checked "Ask to save logins and passwords for web sites" I was then able to uncheck the previous two (that may have been causing some information to be saved?).

So, now we'll see if any more 'suggested log-ins' come up any more.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Also, here's an article about "Form history" which can appear in a little drop-down below a field as you start typing (or when you press the down arrow). If the suggestion doesn't have a key indicating it is a saved login, then it may well be Form history.
