Browser settings won't stick

more options

My boss uses Firefox and said he is having a repeat issue with his browser. The issue is that every few weeks Firefox undoes a setting that he has and we cannot figure out why. It could be when you update to a new version.

What happens is that he has file extensions for PDF and ICS files set to automatically open and instead they change to download instead. He then has to download one of each file type and manually change the setting back to auto-open. Again every 3-4 weeks this resets to download.

These settings are stored in a file named handlers.json in the user's current profile folder which keeps track of all the customized download actions. I don't know why that file would go missing or become corrupted, without any other issues being presented. ??
