So I searched the forums and Googled find the Advanced Preferences. Some say use the "hamburger" icon and select "advanced" Doesn't exist. Some say use Tools-->Options. Doesn't exist.

My goal is to add the global search entry like my previous version of TB had.

Tools>Options is now Tools>Setting

Tried that. Doesn't bring up any Advanced Preferences.

I'm not sure what you're seeking. If it's advanced search, here is a page with an overview: https://www.lifewire.com/search-mail-thunderbird-1173119

I think I found what you're seeking. It's in tools>settings>general. Scroll down to INDEXING and the tickbox is directly below. I believe 'advanced preferences' is possibly an obsolete term, as many old Thunderbird tips are still on the web.
