Hi, Accessing https://astrobites.org/. If a click on a link to read an article the page changes to a human verification screen. " astrobites.org Checking if the site connection is secure astrobites.org needs to review the security of your connection before proceeding. " I click on the checkbox, it thinks for a while an goes back to the verify human screen. This works in other browsers.

I'm on Windows 11, 21H2, FF version 110.0.1 (64-bit) Any ideas?

Regards, Bob

I think you need to try Firefox Private Mode browser to find what is the issue here. If it's a Addon or 3rd party software causing site issues. But I clicked and had no connection issue or error site accessing. Nor did I get a human test screen - unless this is a login then that makes it harder to know.

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or blocked cookies.

  • check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools -> Page Info -> Permissions"

Are you using a proxy or VPN?

You can check the connection settings.

  • Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet, select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, DuckDuckGo PE, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Settings).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> [X] Cached Web Content -> Clear

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
