So now when I paste a link in an email, it doesn't just show the url,

but the whole original graphics and image of the article's url I copied. Hopefully this is a simple setting I can change. This shows an example.

At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button ≡ > Settings > Composition Un-check the box 'Add link previews when pasting URLs'.
