YouTube videos freezing, still playing audio if multiple tabs open with multimedia available

I like to split windows so I can have running YouTube videos on the left half of the screen and browsing the web on the right. If I open another site on the right side of the screen that has multimedia (ESPN, CNN, IMDB), the video freezes on the YouTube window but audio continues to play without issue.

I have done the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Hardware acceleration turned off/on
  • cleared cookies/cache
  • A few About:config fixes

Videos don't have a problem running if I open YouTube with Chrome and continue to use Firefox for surfing.

Try changing widget.windows.window_occlusion_tracking.enabled to false in about:config then restart the browser.

That was one of the about:config changes I had already tried.

Surprisingly no. I will turn off my addons one at a time to see if I can figure it out.
