I have posted this as a reply to another part of this Help page but repeat it in the hope that I get a faster answer.

I have Thunderbird 115.9.0 on my Windows 10 computer. I have four email accounts listed and wish to make the one at the bottom of my list the default account so that it will send emails generated by an MS Access database. This did work a year ago then I switched back and now changing it again is not working.

Neither changing account order or setting a default account is working for me. First I just tried to set the account at the bottom of my account list as the default. Failed as priority immediately flicked to the top account. I then shifted the bottom account to the top of the list. Looked good but restarted TB and the list was back to the old order. Again shifted the bottom account to the top and then made it default - looked good. There is no action to "save" this setting so restarted TB - no, accounts were the same as last week. Please help. I need that bottom account to be default on Monday morning.

- highlight the account in 'account settings' pane - then click the 'account actions' menu on same pane (slightly lower) and select to make default. The order of appearance is irrelevant.

That is exactly what I first did. It did not work. When I click the 'account actions' menu on same pane (slightly lower) and select to make my bottom account the default the Account settings pane immediately flicks to show the top account in my list as the default account.

Now, since receipt of your response. I moved the bottom account to the top. Then I made that newly placed top account the default. Looked good. Then I sent an email from MS Access and it went out through the now default top account. All looking good. Then I restarted TB - back to what it was last week. How do I make the new setting stay?

Possibly something is preventing Thunderbird from saving its settings, possibly an anti-virus product? Would not be uncommon. If you run a non-MS antivirus (Assuming you use Windows), check to see if there is an email setting to remove interference with Thunderbird updates. Just a (frequent) possibility.

Good idea. I have Mcafee. Turned it off and tried the TB changes again - failed. The changed settings work fine until I restart TB. Looks like I may have to reset TB and be careful not to restart it until my work is done.
