Disable Constant Pop Up add "outlook.live.com" as an application for mailto links

The 'add "outlook.live.com" as an application for mailto links' keeps popping up continuously after I click to X to delete the banner message. How do I disable it? Firefox should have a "don't remind me again" option. I do not want to add mailto links or make any changes. Thank You!

Hi, that page has a tag listing a URL for composing new messages, and since Firefox has detected that Outlook isn't one of your options for handling "mailto" links (like mailto:bob@example.com), or that a previously saved compose URL does not match, it is offering to add it. For more information about where this URL goes, see: Change the program used to open email links.

The easiest way to stop getting the message is to add the URL to your mailto options. A different approach was suggested in another thread, but I haven't tested it myself: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1445518

I click yes to add outlook everytime I go there, then change it back to gmail after I am done. This doesn't stop it from asking me every time. There needs to be a way to set it and not be asked this question EVERY DAY!

There are many posts about this all over the internet in reddit and other mozilla forums and on this very website too. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE TAKING SO LONG TO FIX THIS ISSUE!

When you use the Add button, the option is normally saved permanently in a settings file named handlers.json in your Firefox profile, and that change should continue to apply in future sessions. The fact that it keeps getting lost is not normal. But what is going wrong? Maybe:

  • Firefox is not able to update the handlers.json file, so every time you load the site (even in the same session), Firefox isn't aware that you already saved the option and asks again. You can check whether the handlers.json file is getting updated by checking the timestamp on the file to see whether it is current. (If you want to look at files in your profile folder, see: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.)
  • Firefox updates the handlers.json file, but some other process on your system cleans it out, such as the privacy programs CCleaner or Advanced SystemCare.

Or maybe one of the "Clear history when Firefox closes" settings is removing it. Do you use that option?

There is a request you can vote on to be able to tell Firefox not to suggest this option. That's over here:

(But I think the way you described the problem, yours is broken for a different reason.)
