Thunderbird very slow when deleting

I have now got version 128.3.2esr, updating from the one before that - 128.3.0esr. With this older version I had a problem deleting emails ( coming up with "not responding") roughly taking 30 secs to delete and respond again. Several days passed, I was about to call our IT guy when things went back to normal. The same thing is happening again with the latest update!! I have been using Thunderbird for years with no problems until now, can anyone help? Sue

It's Windows Defender

Create an exclusion in Defender for the Thunderbird profile folder, so that the Defender's real-time scanner will not scan it. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_how-to-find-your-profile

I think I am about to do things above my pay-grade so I will thank christ1 for their generous help and then contact my local IT person to help.

Please find Windows Defender at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues - it has a link to the instructions.

Thanks to all, the weird thing is, without doing anything, the problem resolved itself. My husband, who also uses thunderbird, had not had any problems but he also hadn't had the last couple of updates. Still all a mystery but, fingers crossed, I can now function properly!
