I am using Thunderbird to send ...@outlook.com emails on a MacBook Pro version High Sierra. Two email accounts were set up for two different clients. One is having trouble remembering passwords and the other, when you open the "saved Logins" page has correct imac and smtp passwords plus a very long password that begins 1//nnCCCCCCC where the n's are numbers and the C's are characters. The Provider column lists sum-thing like "oauth:login.microsoftonline.com (https://outlook.office.com/............". What is this? and is it causing the error above?

I suspect it is something to do with Apple's system of providing secret passwords for use in non-Apple software?

What is this?

It's an OAuth authentication token. With OAuth2 authentication Thunderbird only remembers a token, and not the actual account password. So any IMAP or SMTP password for that account can be deleted in Thunderbird password manager.
