When I open a new tab, I would like it to open up a blank page, not this site: http://start.facemoods.com/?a=ust&f=2

Since you have an extension called "Facemoods", I would guess it has something to do with that extension. Go to Tools > Add-ons > Extensions , locate "Facemoods" and click on it, click either Disable or Uninstall , restart Firefox by clicking Restart Firefox in the Extensions window. Test.

Other Issues: ~~red:You have installed plug-ins with known security issues. You should update them immediately.~~

Update Java: your ver. 1.6.0.13; current ver. 1.6.0.20 (important security update 04-15-2010) (Firefox 3.6 and above requires Java 1.6.0.10 and above; see: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Java-related+issues#Java_does_not_work_in_Firefox_3_6 ) (Windows users: Do the manual update; very easy.) See: Updating Java Do the update with Firefox closed.

Install/Update Adobe Reader for Firefox: your ver. 8.2.2; current ver. 9.3 See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using+the+Adobe+Reader+plugin+with+Firefox#Installing_and_updating_Adobe_Reader You may be able to update from the Adobe Reader installed on your system instead of going to the Adobe site and downloading. Start > Program Files, find and click Adobe Reader to open, click Help, click Check for Updates. If you go to the Adobe site to download the current Adobe Reader: -use Firefox to download and SAVE to your hard drive (save to Desktop for easy access) -See the images at the bottom left of this post to see the steps to take on the Adobe site -exit Firefox (File > Exit) -check to see that Firefox is completely closed (Ctrl+Alt+Del, choose Task Manager, click Processes tab, if "firefox.exe" is on the list, right-click "firefox.exe" and choose End process, close the Task Manager window) -double-click on the Adobe Reader installer you just downloaded to install/update Adobe Reader

Update Shockwave for Director: your ver. 11.0; current ver. 11.5.7.609 (important security update released 2010-05-11; see http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb10-12.html) NOTE: this is not the same as Shockwave Flash; this installs the Shockwave Player. SAVE the installer to your hard drive (Desktop is a good place so you can find it). When the download is complete, exit Firefox (File > Exit), locate and double-click in the installer you just downloaded, let the install complete. IMPORTANT: I have found it wise to always restart your system after doing anything with Adobe products. See: Installing Shockwave

I also see in you above posted Troubleshooting info that you or an extension have changed a lot of network.http prefs. You should be careful with making such changes as not all servers support pipelining or like you too make so many simultaneous connections.

I installed facemoods addon and then removed it the standard way from Tools>AddOns... The problem is even after removal the default search that happens from the address bar now points to Start.FaceMoods.Com/... Earlier it was google. So is my browser hijacked as the reviewers of Facemoods addon say? Whatever the case may be, I want the search to default to google and not anything else. So if I type say Oracle in the address bar it should go the Oracle.COM as it was happening before facemoods. Please do help me out in cleaning my Firefox instance.

Renjith The topic of the Original Poster's question is "When I open a new tab, I would like it to open up a blank page, not this site...". Your question is about location bar search. Totally different.

Please post a new question by clicking on "Ask a New Question" or by clicking this link: https://support.mozilla.com/tiki-ask_a_question.php?locale=en-US&forumId=1

By posting your own question, we can see info about your OS and your Firefox version and set-up. Choose "I have another kind of problem". Please describe your problem in detail in the "Description" section along with when/how often it happens and, if only certain web sites, please give one or two example addresses. To include a list of your extensions and some other important information, type about:support in the URL/location bar in a blank tab, click the "Copy to Clipboard" and paste in the "Troubleshooting Information" area when answering the questions asked. Please to not enter anything in the "Firefox version", "Operating system", or "Installed plugins" areas. Enter your e-mail address for an automated e-mail when someone responds (your e-mail address remains confidential, even we can not see it) or bookmark your question so that you can find it later.
