Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."

If not, see this: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/troubleshooting+extensions+and+theme...

Same happened to me. To resolve, I typed about:config into firefox search box; under startup.homepage.override, I right clicked modify, and deleted the text, then hit OK.

Then in the search box under about:config, i typed in startsearcher and found 2 more entries. I changed the homepage entry to what I wanted (it had somehow been changed to startsearcher) and deleted the keyword entry. It seems to have worked for me.
