It also highlights the whole word when I only want to click a part of it and it doesn't let me scroll, does it have anything to do with my kitty walking on the keyboard?

HTML allows users to create links that open in a new tab/window. You can set in to new tab (in the same window) from Tools>Options>Tab panel by enabling "Open new windows in a new tab instead" option. If you want to open then in the same tab, you may copy the link location and navigate to it from the url bar.
