Why doesn't Firefox stop loading when I hit the big red X button?

With all other browsers I have used, when I tell it to stop loading a page it stops immediately. Not so with Firefox. It keeps loading for a very long time if the page has a lot of data.

Does it work if you press the ESC key?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
