Download the Firefox setup file from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html

You can copy that file to the usb stick, and run it on the laptop to install Firefox.

Such a pop-up may have caused malware to get installed on that computer.
You should never respond to unrequested pop-up that appear if you visit a website.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.
