Firefox 3.6.13 hangs on Win 7 64-bit when keeping gmail open

I use Windows 7 64-bit and Firefox 3.6.13. When I use gmail and keep it open for more than say 30 minutes, then my Firefox browser hangs. It doesn't have to be on the gmail tab to hang and sometimes it just hangs when I am working in another application.

I have tried creating a clean profile, disabling plugins and reinstalling but the problem persists. Anyone else having this problem?

Actually I managed to fix this by removing the firefox install directory manually and then reinstalling. I think some components/plugins were installed by other applications and these are not removed if simply "uninstall" firefox.
