They weren't there in Firefox 3, but appeared when I installed Firefox 4. I like not having them there, so bookmarks are listed more condensely. I have a Mac with OS 10.6.

extension works partly, take a look at the comments. is there a simple, elegant way without an extension? tried the modifications in userChrome.css without success :( downgraded to 3.6

Add this code to userChrome.css below the @namespace line to hide icons on the bookmarks toolbar.
