You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.
You can open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu has a tick.

You can enable or disable spell checking globally:

  • Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"

Thank you for the detail in your reply. Unfortunately, the problem is that Firefox 4 is underlining every word (not just mispelled ones). Adding the appropriate dictionaries don't seem to fix the problem.

This problem resolved itself after I restarted Firefox.

I had this problem also.

Just right click in any text area that you are typing in and select:

LANGUAGES> ADD DICTIONARIES

You will see a dictionary from most languages, just "install" whichever one you require and restart Firefox 4 then.

Happy days :)
