I have been using Firefox for years without any issues. I maintain a web site (generated by iWeb on Mac). As soon as I updated from Firefox 3.6 to Firefox 4, I noticed that the most recently added images on my website were not displaying. I added some more images, sure enough they are not rendered at all by Firefox. Safari has no problem at all displaying the images. This is a showstopper for Firefox, I now use Safari.

When viewing a page hit F5 to reload the page from the server, by-passing the cache in Firefox.

Reload a web page and bypass the cache with:

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)

Hi The Edmeister and Cor-el, thanks for taking the time to get back to me. Unfortunately, neither workaround works. And to be honest, for any visitor to the website, they would be completely unaware that there were missing images, so the workarounds wouldn't solve the problem.

Anyone updating to Firefox 4 and then building a new web site in iWeb will be in for a shock when none of their images appear!

Attached are screenshots of the same page in Firefox 4 and Safari. Firefox 3.6 used to work perfectly.

OK, I've partially solved the problem by emptying the Firefox cache. The previously invisible images now appear.

As previously stated though, this doesn't resolve the issue, which is that returning visitors to the web site won't know that there are un-displayed images present. I for one don't want to empty the Firefox cache every time I view a website, just in case there are images I can't see!

Thanks, The Edmeister. Emptying the cache has made the images visible but this is a 'local' solution

I have the same problem, Firefox 4.0 doesn't display my Quicktime movie files on my website created in iWeb. All the movies are cut off at the top, and the don't load correctly. Firefox was fine before this 4.0 upgrade. It used to be my favorite browser. I hope this bug is fixed. Emptying the cache and reloading page doesn't do anything. I even tried reloading the software.

I just noticed a similar problem with audio files generated with IWeb. I published my site but none of the play controls displayed on the site using Firefox, although they displayed and worked fine within IWeb. Safari had no problems at all. I have the latest version of Quicktime and apparently the latest version of Firefox.

As a followup, clearing the cache did not help. I guess I'll go back to Safari.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See:

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

My problem is a bit different. I"ve been running Firefox 4 for quite some time and my iweb site was just fine. Then on Fri May 27, 2011 it suddenly stopped showing the pics. Weird. Could I have updated to 4.0.1 on Thursday, May 26 and then it went flooey? Works fine with Safari so guess that will have to do.

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.

See:

  • Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in Tools > Page Info > Permissions
  • Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
  • Check the exceptions in Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions
  • Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images)

There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block images.
