since i downloaded firefox 4.0.1 the other day, the main search bar in the middle of the home page will not activate to search. when i enter characters into the bar, it comes up with history just as before, but the search button does nothing. All other features operate normally, that is, searches can be done via tab, but not in the search bar on the page. (this method of searching was what i was used to with the old firefox, so i would appreciate still being able to do it that way)

Gekose oplossing

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I did it! Following the troubleshooting guide, there were a number of extensions which required updating, but I think the most important step I followed to rectify the problem was help>restart with add-ons disabled>update all user guides to firefox defaults. Thanks to cor-el!
