I am trying to up date from 3.6 to 5. Will not pass 97% of completion. How can I shut down Firefox so it will complete the installation?

After downloading the latest Firefox, a box shows 97%. Then another box tells me Firefox will need to be shut down to continue. When I shut down Firefox either one it's own, or by a full restart, the same box returns, telling me to shut down Firefox. I can noy go pass this section to complete the installation.
