Every time Firefox 6.0 is launched, it checks for compatibility of add-ons, and it displays the Welcome to Firefox page "Your Firefox is up to date.": <http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/6.0/whatsnew/>.
Also, unable to change home page.
Firefox Help articles "Firefox has just updated tab shows each time you start Firefox" and "Preferences are not saved" don't seem to help:

Try to delete the file compatibility.ini in the Firefox Profile Folder

Thank you for your reply. At your suggestion, I tried deleting compatibility.ini, but that has no effect. Anything else I can try?

You did try to delete the file prefs.js in the Firefox Profile Folder?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
