I do not get sound from the internet. I have tried to use both firefox and internet explorer and neither work. I read that I should check the volume mixer, but Firefox doesn't show up in the box, even if I am on a site that plays videos. Is there a setting that needs to be changed?

You need to look for the plugin-container process as that is used in current Firefox versions to handle plugins.

Also make sure that you have selected the correct output device, you can also check that in the Mixer.

I believe that I have the proper plugins installed. When I try to play firefox videos or anything from the internet, Mozilla firefox doesn't even appear in the volume mixer. If I go to youtube, the flashplayer plugin doesn't appear either. Is there a specific plugin I need to install to get my computer to recognize that firefox is even open? Thanks for your help.

Make sure that you allow the plugin-container process in the firewall.
