how do i restore the bookmarks from my previous computer?
Hi, I had Win XP computer 8 yrs, then it died. So I just got a new Win XP. I transfered all my files from my old XP. I have firefox again. But all my huge list of bookmarks is not there anymore. How can I import them back into my new XP's firefox? I know they must be stored somewhere in my files, but not sure where to look. I searched firefox help for over an hour, but cannot find the answer! Please help? Thank you so much!

Hi Cor-el, thanks for your reply. I tried every single one of those suggestions, and read all the info's thoroughly. Unfortunately, I still could not locate any extra files that might contain my former bookmarks. (I only found the folders in use currently.) If they are somewhere in HTML format, then, perhaps they still exist somewhere-- nut I do not know how to search for those kind... Anyway, have a great day! :)
How corrupted is your old XP drive? If you were able to transfer files presumably you can access it. If you can access it I suggest you use the free program Mozbackup - http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ This should automatically find and transfer your bookmarks.
You only have (10) JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder in the Firefox Profile Folder to restore the bookmarks from or possibly the file places.sqlite if that file isn't corrupted.
Firefox doesn't create HTML backups automatically, so you won't find those.
Your profile folder can be found in this location:
- XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
- Vista/Windows 7: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
See:
The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.
- Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab, and under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders"
- To see all file extensions uncheck the box "Hide extensions for known file types"
