If I type a term in the address bar it takes me to Yahoo search results. It appears in the search bar even though: I have deleted it using 'manage search engines'. Yahoo toolbar is not installed. No Yahoo add-ons are installed. In options, my default home page is Google. I have reset the keyword:url.in about:config I have deleted cache and cookies Only Yahoo Messenger is installed according to Control Panel, but it has been for a year or two and I don't remember the last time I used it...and this problem just started a week ago.

WHAT DO I DO? I HATE Yahoo and vow to never use them again after this spyware tactic. EVER! Please help!

Thanks, but that didn't help. I already did those things. I did however find the answer, after trial and error, on my own. The problem was there was a program that was changing the search settings without me knowing it each time I changed about:config. I opened control panel and filtered programs by installation date. You Tube downloader toolbar was installed at around the time my problem began, so I uninstalled it. Disabling the extension did NOT work. It has to be uninstalled. What I did was:

1. filtered installed programs in Control Panel by date and uninstalled programs installed around the time I noticed the problem.

2. I went to about:config and changed the keyword.url to http://www.google.com/search?q= and I did a search for 'Yahoo' and changed everything to Google.

3. removed the Yahoo search engine from the search bar

Restarted Firefox. Everything is golden. Thank you for your suggestion. I really appreciate the help. I hope this helps someone as well.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
