I want all text in English. Because I live in Panama I am getting text in Spanish. This is not acceptable. I have clicked on English wherever I have been given the choice. I am still getting Firefox help etc. in Spanish. I do not speak or read Spanish.

Is there a reason you're not using the latest version of Firefox? Also, your browser plug-ins are quite old and have security issues. You should update them as soon as you can.

  • When you installed Firefox, did you install the English version ? Were you presented with a Spanish language version upon your original download because of your Location settings in Windows?
  • In your system settings in Windows Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Administrative there is an option to set a language for non-Unicode programs. Is it set to English?
  • Type: "about:config" (without the quotes) into the Firefox urlbar/address bar (and press enter). You'll get a warning message to be careful. Accept that, then you'll be presented with a list of configuration items. Type in that window's search bar (not the Firefox search bar) the letters "lang" (without the quotes). You'll see an item listed as: intl.accept_languages and to the right of it the current setting. If it does not say: "en-us, en" (without the quotes), then right click on the value and select Modify, and change the value to "en-us, en" (without the quotes). Then re-start your browser to see if that solved the problem.

Some sites check your IP and do a reverse DNS look up and automatically serve you pages in the local language.
Many pages have a link to either choose the language or go to an international page where you can select the language.
Such choices are usually stored in a cookie on your computer, so you need to allow cookies from those sites if you let cookies expire if you close Firefox.

If the Google (Firefox) or Yahoo! home page is in the wrong language then see:
