I can't seem to connect to the Firefox update server. Is there something I should do differently? I've always been able to install recommended updates in the past.

When I click to install the recommended update for Firefox (I have version 7.0.1) on the pop-up window, a screen appears that says I'm connecting to the Firefox update server. It never connects, and I've left it up for hours to make sure that it wasn't simply slow.

Hi,

Please try after deleting the updates.xml file in the Firefox root folder.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.
