Periodically I get reminders that an update is available for Firefox. I click on the link, and the status window opens, the bar at the bottom shows activity, but no matter how long I keep the bar open, I do not get a message saying Firefox is updated, and the next time I open Firefox, I will get a message that it needs to be updated. The manual method of updating does not work either.

Hey chiphair,

You might just want to try installing a fresh copy of the latest version of Firefox. I would look at the Knowledge Base article Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles first. That way you'll have a backup of all your bookmarks and person information.

Then you should completely uninstall Firefox and then download a new copy from:

http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/new/

Hopefully this helps!
