How do I get Firefox 9.0.1 to remember form data? I'm using Windows XP. Yes, I already looked under tools/options/privacy and see nothing helpful. I only see "tracking" and "location bar" on the Privacy tab. The previous version I was using stored form data with no issues. I can't get 9.0.1 to remember ANY form data.

You're missing the History section of that window. See the screenshot I posted below.

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there.
A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)

  • You can open the Firefox 4.0+ SafeMode by holding the Shft key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or use the Help menu item, click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled... while Firefox is running.

Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

When you figure out what is causing that, please let us know. It might help other user's who have that problem.

Hi diegohall,

You should look at this article. It has troubleshooting information for the issue you describe. I believe you just have incorrect settings.

Hopefully this helps!

Thanks, Matt_G, but it doesn't help. (see attached screenshot)

Here is what the article says to do... 1) At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click Options. 2)Select the Privacy panel. 3)Set Firefox will: to Use custom settings for history. 4)Make sure that Remember search and form history is selected.

I can get to Tools/Options/Privacy but I do not see any options for "Firefox will..". I only see options for Tracking and Location Bar. (see attached screenshot)

That did it! Thanks the-edmeister!!!

In "safe mode" I see all the privacy options that let firefox remember my form data. I will have to see which extension is causing my problem now.

Thanks again!

A little follow-up. So, my form data (and many other things) are now visible, but only in safe mode. I checked and I'm only using the default theme and I don't have any extensions installed. So, the only way I can see the privacy/history settings is to be in safe mode. Any more ideas?

Thanks for your help!!!

Do you have a file userChrome.css that might hide that section?

The customization files userChrome.css (interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the user profile folder.

Cor-el, well I did go look at my settings using about:config and didn't see anything that jumped out at me. I don't really tweek stuff very much out of fear I will totally screw it up!

The good news is the browser is now saving my form data! I started it in Safe mode several times yesterday and turned on the settings to have it remember history and such. At some point the browser decided I was serious about keeping that form data setting and started doing it. Starting it in regular mode I still don't see the options under the privacy tab. To see the options I have to restart it in Safe mode. As long as it is keeping form data I guess I don't mind too much. If I need to change something else I will restart it in Safe mode again. I know it is not the ideal solution but it is a work-around that actually works. I appreciate everyone's help with this!
