I have no tool tip popup box, when I hover over links or images in firefox. Usually the link title or the image alt-attribute is displayed in a small yellow popup box, when the mouse hovers over an object, but in forefox nothing happens. This is a problem on all sites.

browser.chrome.toolbar_tips in about:config is set to true

Things I have tried (without succes):

- Restarting the browser in safe mode with extensions disabled and tool bars repaired

- Creating a new profile

Are you also missing the tooltip if you hover a toolbar button or the favicon on the location bar?

Did you try to start in Safe mode without making any modifications?
Did you try to disable hardware acceleration?

You can try a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Hello, thank you for your reply!

I had no tooltip at all anywhere.

Disabling hardware acceleration did the trick. But is that the best solution. Won't I loose significant functionality?

EDIT: I tried a clean re-install, no luck.
