(Previous attempt at this paragraph may have bombed.) I just installed Firefox 10.1 on a 64 bit Intel powered PC running Windows XP. I exported the bookmarks LDIF file from the PC it replaced, but find no way to import it into Firefox 10.1. The bookmarks toolbar is turned on, but shows no import / export function, and I find it nowhere in any of the menu displays. Surely the Mozilla folks have not deleted that important function?

Not sure what the 'bookmarks LDIF' file is. Is this some bookmark file used in another browser ?

Firefox currently deals with bookmarks in three sorts of files:

  • HTML for compatability with other browsers etc, it may export bookmarks in this format. or import them and append to its own bookmarks database
  • places.sqlite this is the database that stores the current bookmark set and history.
  • .JSON these are the format it exports and imports in by default, and also stores some automated backups in.
