Using FF18.0 on android 2.6.3. Earlier i would search on Google images. and then i would long press an image and open in a new tab. Now i am unable to do so. Presently i am forced to click on that image. Then i must click on see full size Only Then I can save the image. Why have you changed this functionality to such a long process?

Are you using the Phony extension?

Using Firefox 18 and 19 on Google images using a HTC G2 and a Motorola Razr I get a menu with 'Open link in new tab'.

Using Firefox for Android on a tablet I see that Google Images is using some data: URI that does not allow for opening the image in a new tab.

It is possible that Google is testing a new version of their images site.
