I Saved the following files from xp: places.sqlite places.sqlite-shm places.sqlite-wal signons.sqlite key3.db bookmarks-2013-12-02_3268.json + all files with "cookies" in it. Why I didn't copy the whole profile folder, I don't know, I'm stupid.

However, almost everything worked except 100eds of bookmarks that I had in this field: http://bayimg.com/eadDhaAFI aren't there anymore.

As I said I had lots of bookmarks there and folders too. Where have thsese gone. My places.sqlite are still as big as it was before (20mb) but these bookmarks cannot be found. How can I get them back?

When I go to "show all bookmarks" and search for bookmarks that I had in that field, it doesn't find it.

Hello,

Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.

  1. Use one of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
    • Click the Firefox button to open the menu and click on Bookmarks.
    • Click the Bookmarks menu and click on Show All Bookmarks.
  2. At the top of the Library window, click the "Import and Backup" menu and select Restore.
  3. Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
  4. In the new window that appears, click OK.
  5. Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.

For more information, see the Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer article. For other solutions, see the Recover lost or missing Bookmarks article.

Thank you.

I think your Bookmarks menu drop-down button is missing...

Are the missing bookmarks listed on the main Bookmarks menu? You can view this from the "classic" menu bar; you can tap the Alt key to display that bar temporarily if you are using the compact menu/orange Firefox button.

To see whether the button is on the bar, try the Customize feature: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars. Note that there are two little buttons with a star on them: the one with the word Bookmarks is the menu, the other one opens the sidebar.

When the Menu Bar is displayed, Firefox will suppress the button from appearing on the toolbar. There are ways to force it to appear. Maybe you had set that up on your other computer?

You should only use the main places.sqlite file and not the shm (Shared Memory) and wal (Write-Ahead Logging) temp files.

You can try to start with a fresh places.sqlite file (i.e. delete the current files and let Firefox create a new places.sqlite file) and restore the bookmarks from the JSON backup.
