Redirecting to homepage of certain sites

This has become a very frustrating situation. I am facing a couple problems (that may be related) but I will focus on one here.

My browser will randomly redirect me to the homepage of certain sites at random when I attempt to explore within the site. It has happened to different sites at different times (espn.com, macys.com, etc.). I recently cleared my cache and cookies and the problem persists. I have to close and reopen Firefox constantly. This cures it for a bit then it starts again.

Example: Right now, when I go to the link scores.espn.go.com/ncb/scoreboard, I was redirected to ESPN's main page. But now, as I type this, my other problem has emerged. When I go to that link, I am redirected to a 404 Yahoo Page Not Found (http://us.yhs4.search.yahoo.com/yhs/errorhandler?hspart=visicom&hsimp=yhse-visicom&type=manycam__mystart_ad__1_0_1_108__yhse__antiphishing_dn_4909__rp&q=scores.espn.go.comncbscoreboard). This Yahoo 404 page has popped up numerous times when attempting to access various sites. I have to close Firefox and reopen it to eliminate the problem for a short time. Then it will happen again with another site.

What is going on? This is driving me crazy.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
