Firefox print with disabled printer without remind message
When I print a web page via Firefox, the disabled printer (disabled with the Windows account that I use, it is enable for other Windows accounts) is on the dropdown printer list.
When I click on the disabled printer, there is no alert message pop-up, it will print directly with the last printer I that I used which is activate.
Already, Firefox shouldn't leave the print job pass and choose automatically a printer, if the printer is disabled, firefox should pop-up an alert and abord the printing, or propose to choose other printers.
My problem is, I have two activate printers, and firefox always takes the last one i used, which is not my preference.
My question, can i hide this disabled printer that won't cause any confusion please? In fact, it is not my computer, we work for a city library and they have this problem. public users can choose the disabled printers (already not right), and always print with no choice and especially it is not the printer they want to print with. IE block well, Office worked well. Just Firefox, still has this problem.
Any suggestions to hide the printer are welcome. Thank you very much.

Hi yi.li,
Thank you for posting your question. Since firefox is remembering the last printer that you used that is disabled, it is possible to reset the printer settings. Please see Fix printing problems in Firefox for more information about why this happens.
Hi rmcguigan,
My question is, how can I hide one of those printers on the drop down printer list.
I have 4 printers, and I need to hide two of them, this will help me definitely resolve the problem.
Do you have an idea how can I do it please?
According to one post I read, if you want Printer1 to be invisible to User2, you should go into Printer1 > Printer Properties > Security tab > "Add" button, add User2, then Deny the Print permission to User2. The Deny will override the default Print permission for User2. Does that work?
I have done that already.
I worked with IE, Office, even other softwares,(disabled printer is in gray or invisible or after click print, a message pop-up saying that I don't have the right to print), but not for Firefox, (firefox switch to a printer that is activate without any message). That's why i post question here. I tried firefox 26, esr etc. the same. This is a huge security problem of Firefox.
I need the printer1 to be invisible or blocked. Whatever solution is, even install a extension is accepted. Please...
I guess the solution I found was wrong if User2 can still see the printer. It was supposed to completely hide the printer, not gray it out.
I was not able to find a bug on file for this, but I may not have used the best wording. Could you file a new bug here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/
If you attach this information to the bug, recommended for a clear idea of what is happening:
- Steps to reproduce
- Expected that the printer should not be visible
- the type of network set up for the printer
- the preferences for the printer in firefox
- screenshot of the permissions of the second user to the printer
- screen shot of the printer being visible
This creates a clear idea to the user who is assigned the bug how to reproduce it and find the functionality that may be causing this. Please let us know if you need any help with this.
Thank you!
