Fireforx is not working as it should. The problems Ive noticed are:

- I couldnt even post this question using firefox - the submit "Ask this" button would not come up as link so when I clicked it it did nothing - The same would happen when I am editing my website for wordpress, other "submit" type functions would not allow me to press the buttons - logging into google webmaster or analytics just hangs with some parts of the screen appearing and the loading animated gif where the content should be - website backend wont let me purge the cache as it sends me to a 404 page. - Front end CSS editor will not load when I click the button on the front end of my site

What I have tried: - Clearing the firefox cache by shift + enter and also by going through th2 firefox menu - updating to latest firefox - uninstalling/restarting/reinstalling

Everything works fine on other browsers.

Firefox health report just continuously loads

No spyware found

I found the solution. For some reason Firefox disabled javascript without my knowledge.

I found this out by going on facebook and facebook displayed a message saying it wasn't installed.

I googled how to turn on Javascript as Firefox since version 23.0 has taken away these options. To enable javascript you have to:

- open firefox - type "about:config" - press the button that says "I'll be careful, I promise!" - on the setting page type "javascript.enable" to search for the option - the value should be "true" so you may have to click or double click to change the settings.

Refresh the window and everything was fine!

Thank you for all your help, time, and input

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Hi. None of that worked :-(

Is Firefox blocking any content (i.e. is there a shield icon on the location bar)?

What element gets selected if you right-click such a button and use "Inspect Element"?

When I log in to my website back end there is a help box and as soon as you start typing it should change the button so you can click and send to get help/support. When I inspect element I get this:

<input class="btn new-ticket-btn" type="submit" value="Submit Help Request" name="commit" disabled="disabled"></input>

Some buttons work and I can navigate around a site but like I said google analytics just hangs not fully loaded and similar behaviour on other sites.

No shield icon to be found.

This just suddenly happened when I was working on my website, doing my normal processes.

Do you have security software that might be blocking JavaScript or otherwise causes problems?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

I already have already clicked on the "I have this problem too", but I have some additional information.

  1. 1. I first ran into the problem a couple of days ago. I was at version 26.0, which the Control Panel's "Programs and Features" said was installed on 12/17/2013.
  2. 2. "Programs and Features" said that "Mozilla Maintenance Service" was installed on 2/5/14, only a couple of days ago.
  3. 3. After restarting Firefox (I think I actually rebooted), I was able to go to Help->About which verified it was 26.0. It also told me that was old and had a button to install 27.0. I let it do that.
  4. 4. Help->About verified that I was at 27.0, and "Programs and Features" verified that, and that the "Mozilla Maintenance Service" entry was gone.
  5. 5. Symptoms (both before and after going to 27.0):
  • When first started everything is fine
  • After a while, the mouse stops working on the Menu Bar (where File, Edit, View, etc. are). If you push an item, the item depresses, but you don't get the dropdown. Help is the exception: you do get the dropdown, but nothing in the dropdown works.
  • I also tried using the context menu in the window itself. Right clicking on an open area did bring up the context menu. I tried "Bookmark This Page" in the context menu, and it was ignored. Some other things in the context menu worked.
  • During all this, I was able to switch to other Windows (including Word, bringing up I.E., etc., which operated normally. I could also come back to Firefox.
  • I brought up the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and everything looked normal. None of the Processors/Cores were any near 100%, Firefox showed up in both Applications and Processes. Nothing seemed to be looping.

Finally, I tried to close Firefox, clicking on the "X" in the title bar. The was no response, not even the warning that I had multiple tabs open. From that point on, once I went to another window (e.g., Word), I couldn't get back to the Firefox window. It was there, but clicking on it didn't even highlight the title bar, and trying to click on anything in the window was to no avail. The Task Manager still showed Firefox as an active Application and Process. The only way I could get Firefox to end was to right click on the Process and pick "End Process". Only then did the Firefox process end and the Firefox window close.

I hope this is of some use. FWIW, my configuration is a Dell XPS 8300 with a Intel Core i7-2600 3.4GHz processor and Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit). Automatic Microsoft updates are enabled.

For both of you. Start Firefox in Safe Mode. If it runs, poke around some SAFE web sites and report back.
