Looking to reset settings after Windows 7 failure especially blocked cookies exceptions.

A User Profile Service Service Failed error was present at bootup. To resolve this I had to do a registry entry in safe mode. I lost some settings when I did this. I was able to recover my bookmarks but cannot get my cookies block exceptions back. Any suggestions?

Did you use the Firefox Reset feature? If so, did it create a folder on your desktop named Old Firefox Data?

If so, that should contain a copy of your old permissions.sqlite database. I'm not sure it's 100% safe to copy that into your current profile folder, but if you want to give it a try, here's how:

First open the folder with your old permissions.sqlite database in it and keep that to one side.

Next, in Firefox, open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using

Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup (you will see lots of time stamps on the files update when it's done).

Rename permissions.sqlite to something like newpermissions.sqlite.

Next, copy the old permissions.sqlite and paste it into the new folder, or you can Ctrl+drag it to copy it between then.

When you restart Firefox, all your old site-specific permissions should be restored. Any luck?
