My Thunderbird account is POP3 I backed it up, but there were issues with my PC Win 10 I could only find the MSF files in the backup. I had to reinstall Thunderbird and now need to copy these MSF files into the new Thunderbird. I found a programme called TOURG. it only helped me confirm that all the MSF folders are in tact. It did't help in copying the MSF files. Can you help

Two queries:- I have a strange black square that appears when replying to emails. It can be moved with the cursor but won't disappear. I have the option set which displays the number of messages and the disc space they occupy in various folder. In the Deleted folder, when I empty it, either using 'Empty Deleted' or manually be selecting all the messages and using the delete key, The number of messages drops to zero but the disc space is still occupied. This is in contrast to the junk folder where the operation works as expected. Help, please!

Everything worked fine until I upgraded to 128.3.1 Now I cannot open any attachments. The most urgent to fix is pdf attachments. I am running Thunderbird in Ubuntu and the default app in my Ubuntu is Okular. Under Thunderbird Settings, Files and Attachments, the pdf setting is currently System Handler but that does not lead to any action when I click on an attachment. Under Thunderbird Settings, there are no apps listed in the Other list. Selecting that option just takes me to Ubuntu Documents - where there are no apps. Okular is definitely the default app in my Ubuntu setup for opening pdf files. How do I get Thunderbird to use this? Thanks for your help Ian

It used to be, (years ago) that the message filters worked, apparently, thus: in descending order- filter applied, message removed message from inbox next filter until the inbox was was empty, OR if not empty yet (because no previous filter matched), a final filter of "match anything" would be applied to the remaining messages in the inbox, and those messages would be moved to the designated folder.

Now, it seems that while the filters are being applied, the message is not moved immediately, but rather is copied to where it is intended, but left in the inbox, marked read, apparently. So, when the final "match anything" filter is encountered, ALL of those previously processed, marked read messages are actually moved (copy/delete, I suppose) to the final designated folder.

So, if this is not a bug, how can I achieve the original behavior?

Some additional, should be irrelevant info: I have one main account which mostly gets things addressed to my @spamcop.net address. Things I'm interested in go to one of maybe 50 folders under that account. Anything else ( that is, left over from the previous filtering ) is supposed to go to the inbox folder of my Spamcop account for possible spam reporting, Marked "unread". As it is, every incoming message goes into that account, marked read. Useless.

A final note is that messages ~moved~ to the main inbox are ignored in normal use, but if I select filters and manually apply them, they work as expected.

Thanks for any help with this. Doug McCrary, long-time user on Ubuntu

P.S. I'm not interested in using IMAP, I have everything else working as I like with POP3.

I've been using Thunderbird for many years, and have always been very happy with it. I have it linked to my Google Mail account.

In the last couple of months, however, an issue has begun where at least 1, more usually whole batches of new emails in my inbox, are blank with a LinkedIn logo, both in the preview window, or if I open it in a new tab. Nothing seems to make it readable, I have to open my browser to view the emails, but it's never all the new emails, just some of them. Anybody had the same issue and fix?

When I create a new event by right-clicking on a day on the monthly calendar and then "Invite Attendees" I see in the new pop-up dialog that the organizer of the event has the illegal domain address of "@internal". The attendees receive their invitations but the .ics contains the line

ORGANIZER;PARTSTAT=NEEDS-ACTION;CUTYPE=INDIVIDUAL;SENT-BY="mailto:

<redacted>":mailto:<redacted>@internal

Since <redacted>@internal is an illegal email address the attendee cannot respond to the invitation either in the affirmative or negative.

How can I change the default domain of the organizer to the email address of the user creating the event? I have searched through all the settings I can find no mention of @internal there or in the documentation on the web.

I have been testing on my Win 8.1 system and Thunderbird 115.16.2 (32-bit), which is the most advanced available. The people I work with experience the same behavior with Thunderbird 128.3.0 on Win 10 and Win 11.
