Why did I get a blank screen for website?

Earlier today I clicked on a link to dnainfo[dot]com from gothamist[dot]com, and the apparently correct URL then showed up in my address bar but the screen was blank. I then ran a google search for DNA Info, and clicked on the search result which brought me to the apparently correct URL but again the blank screen. Thirty minutes or so later I again tried, and the dnainfo[dot]com website now appears when I access it either through google or gothamist. Why did the blank screen appear? Usually when there's an issue with a website or server some error message appears rather than a blank screen. Thanks for any insight folks may have.

its not always a message. you may get a blank screen because of server load, and it shows the content when the server gets free from the heavy load. So that is not a problem, i hope that is the answer to your question.

In such a case first try to reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Thanks for the reply. It's funny because about 4 pm today I clicked on a link from google news to an article on at the El Paso Times website, the article appeared, the screen then went blank, and then after 30 seconds or so the article then re-appeared which sounds consistent with your explanation. Thanks again.
