I have imported a number of address books and I want to merge them into one. Can this be done without having to manually copy each entry form one to the other?

Yes you can drag and drop contacts between address books.

Open the address book window. Make sure the Directory pane is on and visible. If not turn it on under the View menu. Click the folder that you want to move contacts FROM to make it display in the main window. Select the contact or contacts to move. You can select one contact by clicking on them and then do a control+a to select all. Drag the selected contacts to the new address book folder and drop them there.

Thank you very kindly. I did not know it was that easy. I tried cut&paste before, but that does not work.
