When typing content text is regularly jumbled, cursor repositions randomly, and sometimes get hanging hour-glass.

In typing here the problem showed itself so I left the unedited text (last paragraph) as an example. It should read:

"Have tried turning off Add-ons including dictionaries, and turned-off spell-checkers.  Am using a new 'puter with Windows 8.1 but had same problem with previous 'puter & XP."

Thanks Matt, but per my post, I had the problem on my previous XP PC and am now using a brand new 8.1 PC. It doesn't affect Word - so far only T'bird and now, I realize, Firefox. As I copied-over my T'bird data using MozBackup and I suspect the problem lies there: but how do I find it?
