Is there an auto save function which will save email as it is being written

Windows 8. If I lean on the forward portion of my laptop it often erases all or a portion of my email while in process. Is there a function that will auto save my emails as they are being written.

Is this problem on a popular webmail site (e.g., Yahoo, Hotmail/Outlook, Gmail) or in the Thunderbird email program? Just want to make sure your post landed in the right part of the forum.
