When I click Firefox on taskbar once it does not start.

If I click it twice within 5 seconds it does start but with a second process. The first process remains inactive and has to be shut down to free up memory resources using Windows Task Mananger

I have put up with this anomaly for months and now I wish to address the matter properly and have it fixed.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
