Outlive in box screen is wacked. It is the ONLY site with this problem Help!

Log on screen for outlook is fine. All other web pages display fine. Inbox screen has all text to left and broken links. Did all the cookie stuff etc. Same problem in save mode. It works fine in Safari on the same machine,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

  • Clear the Cache and
  • Remove Cookies
    Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to.

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.

  • Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.
  • Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

Dear FredMcD,

I really appreciate the time you took to respond to my query. The procedures you referenced are the stock answers found on the "trouble with a website" part of the support forum. However as I said in my original query, I did all the cookie stuff and the problem also persisted in safe mode.

I was going to reset Firefox this morning and go through the arduous process of reloading all my preferred plug ins and add-ons but I decided one last time to load the problematic web page and voila! the problem spontaneously disappeared and the web page is now being displayed properly (As I mentioned it always displayed properly in Safari).

So if it ain't broke I ain't gonna fix it. Do you think I have a corrupted profile? I tend not to think so because the problem was specific to on page and one page only.

Cookies made more sense but as I said I did all that stuff.

I am an old database programmer over the years I have occasionally run into quirks which appear and then disappear but this has me stumped.

One other idiosyncrasy, from withing outlook and outlook only, when open a link or command open a link it opens it in a new tab as it should be immediately makes that the active tab even though I DO NOT have it checked to switch to that tab immediately in my preferences. It works correctly from other sites like ESPN etc.

Please no stock answers and again I really appreciate your efforts on my behalf.

The answer I posted is the first step in such things. Most of the time, this turns out to fix the problem. As to the source, it could have been a bad file someplace, and it could have been overwritten by something thus fixing it.

As to resetting Firefox, the add-ons below will help greatly.

As to opening links, some links are pre-programed to open in the current page or new tab or new window. The only way around that is to manually open the link via right click. This next add-on can also help

MClickFocusTab {web link} While using mouse middle-click to open new tabs, with a short- time clicking to open new tabs in background, with a long-time clicking to open new tabs in foreground.


These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.

Bookmark and use this; Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.


Settings Guard for Firefox {web link} Detects and resets changes to settings that are frequently done by add-ons and application installers.


Adblock Plus {web link} Blocks annoying video ads on YouTube, Facebook ads, banners and much more. Adblock Plus blocks all annoying ads, and supports websites by not blocking unobtrusive ads by default (configurable).


Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.

Well... after disappearing for a day and a half the problem returned sort of. It was displaying the page corrupted but in a different way than before sort of "partially" corrupted. Then when I refreshed the page, it then displayed corrupted in the exact way it looked in the attached screen shot from my first question.

It was like it was trying to assemble the screen but it got hung up before it could get all the parts together correctly. Strangely though, the Outlook live in box was the ONLY page that experienced the problem. Of course this is my home page and the one I look at the most.

I finally bit the bullet and did a total refresh of Firefox. It seems to have solved the problem... at least it has been behaving all day. The extension FEBE made it easy to get the parts and pieces I needed back in to get it running with the appearance and procedures that I prefer.

Thanks for the help again. I'll let you know if Firefox "burps up" again. BTW it seems to run faster and cleaner and Activity Monitor indicated that it is less of a memory user. Just my imagination? Who knows

If it does return, please post another question.

Over the life of a program, some things can get left behind, or corrupted. Flushing, resetting, or a clean install can fix such things.

If it happens again and bypassing or clearing cache and clearing cookies doesn't help then check the network log in the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer). Check on the Network tab if content from a specific domain is blocked or otherwise not loading and has a content size 0 (zero).
