Thunderbird 31.4.0 won't receive new emails, even though webmail shows new emails have arrived. Cannot send new messages either.

Thunderbird 31.4.0 has stopped receiving any incoming mail from all three of my email providers. I'm running Thunderbird on Windows 7 - 32 bit. TB was installed in April 2014 and has worked fine until today. Webmail works ok on the 3 email servers and I can see there is new mail but TB is not downloading it when I click "Get messages". I cannot send emails either.

Message at bottom of screen shows "..<username>@talktalk.net:Connected to <username>@talktalk.net..." for a long period - but no emails are downloaded.

At this point, and by some means which I have now forgotten, I managed to find that the email servers response was related to the password. However there is no request from TB to enter a password.

Tools-ErrorConsole shows lots of LoginManager and gloda errors.

Tried recreating the Gloda database, but no effect.

Thinking that I needed to re-enter my password, I went to Tool-options........

Unfortunately the Tools-options-security-passwords-savedpasswords drop-down box is now blank and seems no way to re-enter passwords.

Don't think I've ever used a master password ( says "not set" ) but trying to enter new one is not accepted by TB.

I've tried "Airmail" 's advice from another thread:

But as I said the "Saved Passwords" drop-down list is blank, so there's nothing to correct.

At this point I tried removing an account and recreating it, in hopes that this would allow me a means to re-enter the correct password. Although this works up to the point where Thunderbird reports that my remote server has accepted the password, (TB message "password OK") there is then a TBird message to say that the account already exists. (I can see that all the emails for this account up to today are still there under C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\7ajdgn0p.default\Mail , so I guess this is why.

I'm actually rather relieved that deleting the account did not delete these emails, but their presence may be part of the reason why I can't recreate the account with a password.

I just can't see any way of re-entering the correct password.

Is it my Thunderbird Profile folder that's become corrupted. If so - any ideas for a fix?

Some screen captures relating to my question above.

First to show that the response to Tools-Options-Security-Saved passwords is a blank drop-down list as I said in my previous post. ( So unfortunately I can't use Airmail's advice in https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=19006 ) BTW - thanks Airmail .

Second capture is the effect of trying to recreate one of the deleted accounts. ( I deleted the account to try to re-enter the password.)

On this capture note the "password OK" message indicating that the remote email server has accepted the password as correct.

Also note on this capture that "Done" is greyed out and if I try to proceed TB says that the account already exists.

So there seems to be no way of re-entering a password.

I've also noticed that about the time of the failure Trusteer Rapport blocked Thunderbird from taking a screen capture while I was using Firefox to access a banking site. ( Screen Cap 3) I'm not sure why Thunderbird should want to do a screen capture. I've posted another question related to this.

Just tried turning off AVG and then clicked on "get messages".

No luck I'm afraid.

But I'll try some other ideas prompted by your comments.

Anti spam was never turned on and I never seem to get to the point where any messages are being downloaded - there's just the password error message from the server.

I just cleared the Thunderbird error console and then clicked on "get messages" again and the first message is:

" Timestamp: 16/02/2015 14:00:05 Error: this._storage is null Source File: resource://gre/components/nsLoginManager.js Line: 383 "

Is this error message caused by TB failing to find my TB password file in my profile folder?
