I installed Win 10 on my Toshiba laptop and when I launch Firefox it opens but then just hangs up. It does not go to my homepage. It has all my bookmarks but when I click on one, nothing happens. I ran it in safe mode, same thing happens. I uninstalled, downloaded fresh version (40.0.2) and it will not go beyond opening. Anyone else experience something like this?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Network. Look for Configure How Firefox Connects and press the Settings button. If you are using a proxy, make sure those settings are correct. If there is no proxy, first use No Proxy. If there is a problem, then try System Proxy.

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

FredMcD..

I am using the latest version (40.0.2) I tried no proxy, auto-detect proxy settings for this network and use system settings and none of them will open Firefox to connect. I have a browser called Pale Moon which uses the Mozilla engine and it works just fine. I am directly connected to my router. I tried disconnecting from the router and just going wireless and the same thing happens.

And the firewall?

I am using Norton Security provided by my internet provider (comcast). I turned it off and retried Firefox and it sill will not access the web. I appreciate your help.

To make sure that the profile is not corrupt can you try to open Firefox with the profile manager?

I did what you asked and started Firefox from the profile manager and it opened but again it hung up and would not connect to the internet. It shows my saved bookmarks, but none of them will launch. You did not mention if I should delete the default profile so I didn't. If you want me to try that, let me know. Thank you for trying to help. After conversion to Windows 10, this is the only program that will not work. My brother in law has 2 laptops and one desktop converted to Win/10 and all 3 of his machines have Firefox working just fine.

The old profile has the old data, so if the new one worked it could be moved over. Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles

Am sorry... I'm not a very advanced user so I'm not following at all what I need to do in regards to making changes to the Firefox profiles. And if it requires using Firefox at all, it's useless as I do not have a working version of the browser. I'll use Chrome for the time being.
