I have looked into this for you and have been pointed in the direction of this add-on that may help (other add-ons exist that may do something similar).

Did you check installed extensions and themes because this is not a standard feature?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

• Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
• Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Thanks to all for the suggestions, the issue is now fixed, the problem was a setting within the Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar addon.
