Updated Thunderbird to 38.2.0 on Kubuntu, PC has been restarted since update. All folders are displayed correctly, with subjects and senders, but the bodies of all emails are left undisplayed (except in print preview, which as a workaround is pretty clunky!) Compress folders has been completed successfully. None of the settings in View, Message Body As... make any difference. Also, opening a message in a new tab fails to mark the message as read. This is of course *correct*, because I haven't seen the body of the message! In a search tab, the extract of the body which matches the search term *is* shown correctly, so it's clear that the body text is still there, just that something has borked the display.

Self-reply: Never mind! I logged out for several hours (not shut down, this machine runs pretty much 24/7), and on logging in again Thunderbird appears to be functioning correctly. No software updates in the interim, so I have no explanation. I hate self-healing issues...
