The search function will not work in windows 10

When I initially upgraded to windows 10, firefox worked perfectly well, but windows 10 stopped working properly and I had to rest my computer. Windows 10 now works fine, and Firefox works, but the search function does not work. I have refreshed firefox and also run in safe mode- neither solved the problem

Delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the search files. Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox.

If that does not help;

If the first reply doesn't help, or if you want more customized advice, could you elaborate on what exactly isn't working? Firefox allows searching in at least five different ways:

(1) Search bar, a short box usually toward the right end of the main toolbar (2) Address bar, where a site's address usually appears (3) Built-in home page search box (4) New tab page search box (5) Searching selected text in a page using right-click > Search SearchEngine for (the selected text)

For #1-4, what happen when you start typing your search? Do you get suggestions? Then what happens when you try to submit it?
